Pre-conference Radiological and Nuclear Preparedness and Response Workshop

Putting Radiation Plans to the TEST – An exercise design and implementation workshop for radiation emergency preparedness

Description:

NACCHO’s Preparedness Summit is a one-of-a-kind learning and networking opportunity for local health officials and their public health partners from all geographic regions of the nation to share perspectives and engage in dialogue on common key public health practice issues. The 2024 conference will take place in Cleveland, Ohio on March 25-28, 2024. NACCHO, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other state and local partners, is hosting a full day pre-conference radiological/nuclear preparedness and response workshop for about 70 attendances on Sunday, March 24.

This interactive workshop’s first aim is to offer justification for why robust radiation planning and exercising are essential while also providing resources currently used by emergency and public health planners to bridge knowledge gaps and improve their existing radiation planning and exercising programs. The second aim of the workshop is to introduce and train public health preparedness planners to facilitate a new CDC tool called TEST (Training and Exercise Simulation Tool) which is a collaborative serious game that was developed to bridge the gap between discussion and operational exercises for Community Reception Centers (CRCs) using narrative-based problems to foster teamwork, resource management and understanding of specific roles and responsibilities during a radiation emergency.

Please note that due to funding and space restrictions, we may not be able to accommodate all requests.  We will make every effort to include as many applicants as possible and will ensure a diversity of representation across the country. Your answers to the questions below will assist us in this process.

Information gained from this workshop will help inform future NACCHO communications plans and corresponding promotional activities that highlight resources of most need.
